J.B. Long

J.B. Long, 95 of Apalachee, died October 21, 2019.  He was born September 15, 1924 in Jasper, GA.  He was the son of Homer Reid Long and Omia Moss Long.  Mr. Long was the third born the third child of fifteen.  Mr. Long served in the U.S. Army in WWII.   After the war, Mr. Long farmed cotton and later he worked at Welling Puritan Mills as a machinist.  He enjoyed gardening, especially growing tomatoes.  He also loved to fish and share his catch with his family and friends. Mr. Long was a long-time member of Apalachee Baptist Church. Mr. Long was a wise man and will be remembered for his love of his family. 

J.B. Long was preceded death by siblings, Lois, Henry Grady, Erma. Agnes, Manuel, Robert, C.H., Betty Jo, George Wallace, Baby Boy and Juanita Jane.  He is also survived by William Earl, Wanda Ann and Leonard, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family received friends on Saturday, October 26 from 1-2 PM at A.E. Carter Funeral Home.  A memorial service was held at 2 PM in the chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Apalachee Baptist Church or to Gideon’s International.
