Harriett Carpenter Young, 74 of Madison, died September 1, 2019 surrounded by her family at her home on Greensboro Road. Harriett was born on August 26, 1945 to Lester and Georgie Mae Lynch Carpenter. She was a life-long resident of Morgan County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Cathey Carpenter Jones and Mildred Carpenter Davis Henson and grandson, Jacob Taylor Wilkins. Harriett is survived by her children Luke Wilkins & Emily, Mark Wilkins & Carrie and Darla Young Pennington & Dan. Grandchildren are Georgia Wilkins Logan & Stephen, Gracin Wilkins, Thrasher Wilkins and Raegan Wilkins. She is also survived by her brother Jerry Martin Carpenter and his daughter, Deidre Crowell.
Harriett was a loving sister and aunt. Harriett is survived by three nieces that she loved like daughters and that cared for her like a mother; Lorrie (Wayne) Ghann, Kim (Rusty) Johnson and Tina (Matt) Knight. Harriett loved her family and especially enjoyed the annual Christmas Eve oyster stew suppers and Easter Sunday lunches watching the children hunt excitedly for Easter eggs. She enjoyed shopping trips with her sister and nieces, working with flowers and decorating her house especially at Christmas time. Harriett's grandchildren affectionately called her "Meema" and she loved to spend time with them.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 4, from 6-8 PM at A.E. Carter Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 5 at 11 AM in the chapel. Interment will follow at the Buckhead Cemetery.
