Grace Stephens Healey, age 82, died April 17, 2017.  Mrs. Healey was born in Morgan County on October 31, 1934.  She was the daughter of Roy and Dessie Parr Stephens.  She was a graduate of Morgan County High School and took a job as a secretary with the University of Georgia.  While working there, she came in contact with a U.S. Marine Corps recruiter.  She joined the Marines and while serving, she met her husband, Harry.  After serving four years, Mrs. Healey began a career with the UGA Extension Service.  She retired from the Extension Service after 25 years.  Mrs. Healey was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Madison.  She enjoyed being outdoors.   She was an avid reader and gardener.  She enjoyed the Morgan County Senior Center and  working in “Mary’s Garden” at St. James.  Mrs. Healey will be remembered as a patriot, wife , mother and grandmother.

Mrs. Healey is survived by four daughters, Mary Ann Slaughter & Preston, Debbie Calhoun, Harriet Welch & Roy and Kathleen Karr & Tim.  She leaves siblings, Frank Stephens, Sara Doster, Lelia Folds, Jimmy Stephens, Inez Self, Ruby Stewart and Jane Laseter.  Her grandchildren are Heath Slaughter, Bonnie Mealor, Annagrace Mosier, Adam Moss, Bobbi Jo Morris, James Powers, Corey Welch, Mary Catherine Walker, David Karr, Brett Karr and Joshua Karr.  She also leaves 29 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 18 from 5-8 PM at A.E. Carter Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 19 at 11AM at St. James Catholic Church.  Interment will follow at the Buckhead City Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. James Catholic Church, the Morgan County Senior Center or the American Legion.

I am sending your family my deepest sympathy. Grace will surely be missed by everyone. I worked with Grace in my first job with UGA Extension. She was a great inspiration to me and my early career. God Bless your family and comfort you in her passing.
